On Thursday, April 30, 2026, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, in collaboration with BELTEI International University, organized a workshop on Copyright and celebrated World Intellectual Property Day 2026 at BELTEI International University (Tuol Sleng Campus), with 200 students, professors, and civil servants in attendance.

On this occasion, H.E. Long Ponnasirivath, Secretary of State, addressed the workshop regarding the intellectual property system and the objectives of the workshop, which focused on the following key goals:

  • Promoting awareness of intellectual property, specifically copyright.
  • Encouraging creativity and innovation within the sports sector.
  • Promoting the importance of legal respect and protection of creative works.
  • Increasing the participation of educational institutions and the public in the field of intellectual property.
  • Supporting the development of sports, culture, and creative industries in Cambodia.

Additionally, intellectual property and the sports sector were highlighted as important drivers for job creation, attracting investment, increasing economic income, and enhancing national reputation on the international stage. Indeed, the hosting of the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia serves as historical testimony to the significant growth of the sports sector, as well as Cambodia’s capacity and prestige.

In conclusion, His Excellency requested that youth, students, and all stakeholders study and understand intellectual property and actively participate in creating new works to contribute to the social, economic, and innovative development of Cambodia.
