2. Commemorating the Khmer Rouge Occupation: This year’s Cambodia International Film Festival included several significant films depicting the darkest period of Phnom Penh’s history. The special program, “1975-2025: From Darkness to Light in Cambodia,” marks the 50th anniversary of the Khmer Rouge’s rise to power in 1975. This era, under the leadership of Pol Pot, represents the beginning of one of the darkest chapters in Cambodian history.

5. Beautiful Planet: The “Beautiful Planet” program focused this year on the theme “Water of Life.” This collection highlights the vital importance of water as the source of life, a key food resource, and a critical environmental connection for indigenous communities. This beautiful selection includes stories from provinces along the Mekong River, regional Mekong stories supported by OXFAM, and narratives regarding indigenous voices. It features more than 30 films from local communities and international leadership education programs that document contemporary global issues and challenges. Key topics include wildlife and biodiversity, indigenous and Cambodian community issues, and perspectives from across Southeast Asia.
6. The Mekong Discovery Days: “The Mekong Discovery Days” took place at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC) in the Angkor-Kizuna Hall from March 24 to 25.
