Public appeal

The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the Ministry of Cults and Religion would like to inform the public that our ancestors have left behind a wonderful traditional culture for future generations to practice continuously. Not only that, but the Royal Government has also paid high attention to preserving, maintaining, and protecting culture, tradition, and religion to ensure they remain strong and continue to flourish. In the past, some of our people have celebrated their children’s “Engagement Ceremony” by incorporating the “Pthum and Wrist-Tying Ritual” into this ceremony, and some people have also used uniforms identifying civil servants, rank insignia, and administrative logos during certain rituals of weddings. Organizing ceremonies in this manner has been and is affecting the original form of marriage and is not the ancient tradition of our Khmer ancestors, because the Pthum and wrist-tying ritual is only organized on the day of the wedding ceremony itself, while uniforms identifying civil servants, rank insignia, and administrative logos are also not clothing to be used in wedding ceremonies.
