Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts Successfully Completes Restoration of the Ancient Vihara of Wat Roka Kandal
On Tuesday, March 31, 2026 (original text: 2025), Her Excellency Academician Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, accompanied by Excellencies and leaders of the Ministry, attended the Buddhist Consecration Ceremony of the Buddha statues at the ancient Vihara of Wat Roka Kandal following the complete conclusion of restoration work.




The ancient Vihara of Wat Roka Kandal, which is over 100 years old, is an important heritage structure showcasing Khmer architecture and art in the region along the Mekong River, located in Sangkat Roka Kandal, Kratié Municipality, Kratié Province. The paintings and exquisitely carved woodwork of this Vihara are valuable for historical research and Khmer architecture. This ancient Vihara has been restored by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts twice: the first time in September 2002, and the second time in December 2025.
